Second Seminar of Alentejo Roadshow – Carvalhal Wetlands

On 8th April, the second seminar of the WE GO COOP project Roadshow was held at CCDR-Alentejo, in Évora, continuing the transfer of the Wetlands Contract methodology. This session was dedicated to analysing the context and identifying the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in the selected pilot area – Carvalhal Wetlands. The analysis was conducted through a collaborative process involving all the participants in the event, resulting in the stabilisation of the reference framework to be considered and a first reflection on the challenges to be faced.
The next Roadshow seminar will take place on 14th May, also at CCDR-Alentejo, and will be dedicated to defining sustainability objectives and establishing lines of action, consolidating an integrated medium/long-term strategic vision for the target wetland area.

    Alentejo Roadshow – Carvalhal Wetlands

In the scope of WE GO COOP project, the activity “Transferring Roadshows in Euro-MED region” is planned to transfer the Wetlands Contract methodology to three new pilot areas, with the goal of engaging local stakeholders, building capacity and formalising commitments for the implementation of Wetlands Contracts. In Portugal, the pilot area selected was Carvalhal Wetlands, in Alentejo Region. The first seminar of the Roadshow was organised in two sessions that took place on 12th February in Évora and on 20th February in Carvalhal, involving participants from national, regional and local public bodies, academia and local economic operators (e.g. farmers, land owners).
These first two sessions were focused on the presentation of the project objectives and activities and on the introduction to the Wetlands Contracts, which are to be based on participatory work viewing to promote effective governance in wetland areas and to develop more sustainable local practices. The meetings were very fruitful and a second seminar is planned to take place by the end of March or beginning of April, addressing collective mapping and participatory SWOT analysis of the pilot area.

MUTANT VILLAGES – “The Last Dive” in Grândola

RCDI, in collaboration with the Academy of Cultural Producers, organised an environmental awareness campaign in the municipality of Grândola, based on an artistic intervention project. Over the course of about a month, choreographer Alice Duarte and musician Alexandre Moniz developed a work of creation and participation involving the local community and invoking a space for sharing, reflection and collective learning about the conservation of natural spaces, the protection of marine ecosystems, the beach as a public space and the sea as a source of life. The intervention led to the presentation of a public performance in co-creation with the inhabitants of Grândola - The Last Dive - which took place on 12 October.
